Her tale -- along with her disgruntled mood -- made him wonder if he should have avoided that question altogether. It was never the male's intention to recall her bad memories, though maybe that was what was best for her. That's what he wanted, whatever was best for her. Now she had shared something with him that he could remember, and help her through. Heart swelled with pride slightly as he realized she was his friend. It had taken this long to verify, but the fact that she'd trusted him enough to say her past meant they must be friends.
Tail lay slack against the limb, the tip flowing off like his legs were. His chest began to ache from bearing his weight for so long, and the King stood, stretching as his face burst into a yawn. He maneuvered to the other side of her, and lay on two limbs twisted together. His stomach and head faced her as he spoke.
"I'm sorry these tragic things happened to you, Fallyn. I hope that in the course of your time here, that nothing else bad happens."
He ached for her, that her family had been killed while his had been spared. Then the question she'd asked returned to his mind. Why hadn't they killed her too? This beautiful creature before him could have just as easily been slaughtered like her kin. A solemn gaze clouded his eyes.
"I suppose they didn't kill you because fate wouldn't let them... because we were destined to meet."
Black banded tail tapped the limb and curled around it restlessly. Night was fast approaching, and he would need to patrol the land to be sure no others were lurking nearby. Who's to say she wasn't a good omen of things to come, and that there might be another cat just around the bend?

She listened to his words carefully and let a light smile trace across her face as he came nearer to her.
"Well if fate's the case, then at least you were my reward at the end of the tale. I wouldn't want it any other way."
Fallyn watched the golden globe begin to cascade into the earth. The last of the colorful sunset dying away little by little. As night continued to cast its shadows upon them, her fur gleamed, illuminating like a flashlight in the depths of darkness, just like Arc's. She found her tail slowly beginning to move again, some of her happiness etching its way back into her beautiful frame.
"Can I help you patrol before it's time to call it a day?"
Fallyn stood, stretching her lean body and sharpening her claws on the limb before gracefully climbing down, not even making a noise. She tilted her head back up to him and sat on her haunches.[data]183 Word Count. Sorry for the shortness!

Arcturus watched her closely as her tail flicked. Then a bird rustled high above them in the trees, and caught his attention to how dark it was getting. He knew it was nigh upon night, but he hadn't realized exactly how close they'd come. It was time to patrol. Now was the tedious business of excusing himself. It wouldn't take long, but he didn't want to tear himself away for a moment. It was sad really, he'd been alone so long and had survived, yet now he felt like he might die if he was alone for even one more hour.
As her words echoed to his ears, he flicked them back in thought, tail thrashing to and fro. Yes, fate had brought them together, and the brute thought fondly of this. Was he getting a crush? Only time would tell. For now, he was happy to just have a friend. As she spoke again, and moved her position, he smiled, ears again flicking back in thought. Surely nothing would go wrong if she came with him, and if it did, he could protect her. Nothing major had harmed him since his birth, and why would it suddenly start now? A smile broke his solemn expression as he spoke, a soft laugh in his voice.
"I'd be delighted. I doubt anyone's made it as far north as the oasis, so all we really need to check is the meadow. Shall we?"
The question did not have an answer, as he already knew it. He smiled gently and leapt from the tree, stretching his muscles. Finally, he took a few steps forward and tossed his head back to gaze at her and see if she was following.

"We shall."
She released a slightly flirtatious smile as she sauntered passed him, letting the tip of her tail tap the tip of his chin playfully. She'd never seen this side of her herself, but what could it hurt?
Fallyn lifted her head to watch the endless twinkling of the stars. It seemed like a rhythm as they danced back and forth in brightness. Her slim legs stretched with ease as she kept going forward, her muscles flexing beneath her beautiful caressing coat. As she watched the stars continue their sprightly dance, she remembered a song her brother had hummed to her much, and she asked him the lyrics many times. He'd finally told her, right before the murder.
Without realizing she began to sing softly the words of her song. Her voice was a sweet, silhouette of a melody. Soft and caring, but sounding oh so delicate.
"All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out faces.
Bright and early for their daily races, Going nowhere, going nowhere...
And their tears are filling up their glasses. No expression, no expression.
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow, No tomorrow, no tomorrow.
I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad, the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had...
I find it hard to tell you 'Cos I find it hard to take, when people run in circles it's a very very, Mad World..."
Her voice ended as she realized that her melodic voice was expressing itself outside of its usual humming. She shushed herself and turned her head, waiting for Arcturus to catch up. [data]Here's her song: www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7Ig2JJRpdo

She strolled ahead of him, and he watched, hearing her humming grow louder until he could finally distinguish it. It was sort of a song, lyrical and beautiful all the same. His ears pricked forward as a sense of calm drifted over him, almost as if it was a lullaby. A smile broke across his face, as his feet suddenly picked up the pace to bring his body closer to hers. He brushed against her playfully, a gleam in his eyes. Then, tapping her chin with his tail, he took off at a dead run, breaking into the meadow.
The grasses parted and allowed the phantom entrance, some parts covering him, others exposing his head and back. The moonlight danced across his white pelt, glittering and glinting on his ivory frame. He let out a growl to let her know where he was, and then crouched as low as possible so he might pounce on her when she arrived. He felt as playful as a kitten, and wasn't ashamed at all. Patrolling was simple, really, and with her it was wonderful. He began to laugh, knowingly giving his hiding place away.

Fallyn's melodic laughed sounded as he trailed his tail under her chin and raced off into the meadow. Using her best instincts, she perked her ears forward and listened carefully. She tried to catch his steady breathing, but instead she found herself listening to his handsome laugh. She crouched low and walked around him until she could see the end of his tail.
Fallyn settled herself down, creeping forward silently. She lowered her haunches and lunged forward, landing on his back. Her purrs were mixed with play growls as she scrambled up off of him, a smirk written on her face as her tail flicked about excitedly.
"What's this? A noble King caught off his guard? Disgustingly pitiful..."
There was no mistaking the pure sarcasm in her voice as she took her massive paw and whacked his stomach with a laugh. Fallyn couldn't remember the last time she'd had this much fun; it certainly wasn't for awhile. Her sky-blue orbs gleamed underneath the moons shining beams, and she couldn't help but continue to smile.
"Perhaps he was sleeping on the job?"
At this she released a light laugh, and then waited for his voice to fill her with no worries.

He could not cease his jubilant laughter. The ivory cat lay like a sitting duck, she was bound to find him any second. The huntress pounced and he smiled as she landed on his back and spoke, batting his stomach with a paw. His chest rose and fell, gasping for breath before he finally was able to speak.
"I'm ashamed."
His heart skipped a beat as he skillfully rolled onto his back and pushed up with his paws, wriggling from beneath her. He pretended to be upset, pinning his ears back and waving a paw in the air before turning away to hide his smirk.
"...can't believe I let a girl tackle me..."
A note of sarcasm and fun rang clear in his voice, though he still pretended to be dejected, as if she'd hurt his manly pride. A wide grin was on his face, but he remained turned away from her, tail rapping the ground in a seemingly angry way. He allowed this moment of calm to give his lungs a chance to catch up to his racing heart. This was the most fun he'd had in ages, perhaps since he'd been a cub. Oh the joy of a friend.

"Speaking" Thinking Walking
Fallyn grinned as he pretended to be ashamed and beaten. She let out a light laugh and fell to her back, rolling over in playful submission.
"Aww, I'm so sorry My King, perhaps I should be banished from the lands from which your holy paws step?"
She smiled playfully and continued to lay like that as he pinned back his ears in fake defeat. He really is a great King... she thought sweetly as she smiled up at him. Her sure knew how to make a sorrowful mood turn into an enthusiastic one. Her tail moved silently back and forth beneath her as she purred; her eyelids becoming heavy and closing. Although she couldn't find sleep, the day replayed in her mind willingly. From the moment she'd crossed upon his path, from the moment he showed her The Grove, and now to here. The sweet smells flowed through her nostrils of The Meadow. She wondered if she'd have time to relax in The Oasis, the cool, calming water that enchanted her mind.
